Why Reading Eyes Are Impossible to Hide
When you talk to a real person, your eyes are alive. Half-second connections. Natural blinks. A subtle crinkle when you say something funny. Micro-movements in your pupils. Expression shifts with content.
When you read, your eyes move in a mechanical track: left → right, left → right, left → right. Like a typewriter carriage. And because attention is on the text, you blink less. 1. Scan, Don't Stare
Don't lock onto every individual character. Use peripheral vision.
Your eye's central clarity zone covers roughly 5–8 characters around your focal point. You don't need to read word by word. Fix your gaze on the middle-left of a line and use peripheral vision to absorb the whole thing. A quick scan tells you what the line says.

2. Choose the Right Moments for Lens vs. Text
You don't need to stare at the lens the entire time. Sustained, unbroken eye contact is actually unnatural.
Good times to look at the lens:
- The key phrase of a sentence ("this feature saves you half the time")
- Your opening greeting and closing goodbye
- Questions or calls to action ("what do you think?" "try it yourself")
Times when glancing at text is fine:
- Transitions between sentences
- While you're gesturing or moving
- When citing data, technical terms, or anything requiring precision
The big rule: deliver emotion to the lens. Deliver information to the text. Viewers are far more sensitive to the former.
3. Blinking Is Your Friend
Blinking isn't just physiological. It's a social signal. Appropriate blinking during speech says "I'm thinking, I'm present, I'm alive."
Blinking has a hidden superpower: if you shift your gaze from text to lens during a blink, the entire movement is masked. The viewer sees you blink, then continue talking. Zero awareness that your eyes moved.
You don't need to blink strategically. Just speak normally. Your body schedules the blinks.
4. Frame Wider for Forgiveness
A tight face close-up fills the whole screen — every micro-shift of your eyes gets magnified. A half-body or full-body shot disperses viewer attention across gestures, outfit, and environment. Sensitivity to precise eye movement drops significantly.
